At Buskin' Buskers, we attempt to cut into the music and radio industry by networking low power radio stations worldwide. Using our feeds, low power radio broadcasters are provided with unlimited access to our royalty free promotional streaming audio feeds--covering about every genre of music and audio entertainment imaginable.

How It Works

When you join, Buskin' Buskers promotes your productions by making them available for the play lists found on the individual pages at Interstate 01, your online portfolio and fan club forum, as well as the cover page for each production you upload. Each title you upload also gets a shot at being broadcast over FM radio stations in countless neighborhoods around the world.

Air play is awarded only to those titles that make the Top 100 charts for each genre (known as the promotional period). Radio air play continues until the production's ratings fall off the charts. Once off the charts, it is no longer available for live stream and can only be heard through individual play lists on Interstate 01 and your porfolio. Isolated, randum air play will continue until you remove your title from promotions.

* Each owner/author/producer retains all rights to every production they upload to the server. Only productions that are authorized for promotions are made available for stream outside of the owner's portfolio. Once promotional authorization is revoked, the production is removed from all play lists and only made available through its cover page.

When in promotion, anyone can add the title track to the play list on their page. However, once promotional authorization is revoked everyone who has linked to your title get notification that it will soon be removed with the option to purchase if they want to keep it on their page. How to Get Air Play

When you join, you are given your own artist's portfolio. From there, you have access to upload singles and create albums for your productions.

Once you upload a production, it is made available for our audiences to listen, like, and promote on their page. The more complete plays and likes a production receives, the higher it moves up on the charts for others to notice.

Audio productions that reach the top 100, in any given genre, are added to promotional audio feeds that are continuously streamed in a format suited for live broadcast. Listeners are then directed to the radio station's page showing their play list which, in return, is linked to the artist's page.

Creating your own low power radio station is easier than one might think. But what of the cost, and what does the law say?

The Law

The law in the United States prohibits transmission on AM/FM frequencies without a license. That seems reasonable but in reality, the law is not operating to prevent broadcasters from impinging upon each other's frequencies as much as it is to prevent small, community based operators from getting their signal out. Whether you choose to operate using a license or not, the law is the law and for now the law is working against community-based programming and the FCC's solution, called LPFM, is no exception.

The good news is that there is no cost to file an application for a permit to construct a low power FM radio station within the United States, neither is there a license required to operate one. The bad news is, in order to be legal, you must comply with the strict standards the FCC has created to limit access to the LPFM program. This includes their so-called "filing window" for applications.

What is needed to qualify for a LPFM?

• You must be a non-profit and with a presence in the community for at least two years.
• You must broadcast at least eight hours of locally-originated programming each day.
• You must pledge to maintain a publicly accessible main studio in the community.
• You must wait for the FCC to announce that it is accepting LPFM applications.
• You must select call letters that do not conflict with other radio stations.
• You must prescribe to basic airwave standards of content. In other words, you cannot curse or use your studio to disseminate false or misleading information designed to inflame or cause harm. Speech and debate related political, religious, social and economic commentary always allowed.

What equipment is needed?

Buidling a low power radio is the easy and affordable.

• Publicly accessible space for your studio (law requires the public must have access to your studio).
• Sound mixing equipment (can be a single computer with DJ software installed).
• Low power FM transmitter (max 100 watts).
• A compatible transmission antenna (must be within length and height restrictions governed by the FCC).

How to apply for the Low Power Radio Network?

• Anyone operating a radio broadcast station may apply.
• Member radio stations may only air titles provided on the daily LPRN play lists.
